VIJAY - ILAYATHALAPATHY

Vijay full name is Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar born on June 22, 1974, better known as Vijay is a Tamil film actor and playback singer. He is the son of S.A.Chandrasekhar, a film producer and director and Shobha Chandrasekhar, a Carnatic singer. He did his preliminary schooling in the Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary in Virugambakkam, Chennai. Later he began his post-secondary education at Loyola College in Chennai and entered the film industry. Vijay married Sangeeta Sornalinkam of Sri Lankan descent on August 25, 1999. The couple is blessed with two children, son Jason Sanjay born in 2000 in London and daughter Divya Saasha born in 2005 in Chennai.

Vijay entered into the film industry as a child artist in films produced by his father. At the age of 18, Vijay debuted in the lead role in the 1992 film Naalaya Theerpu, also produced by his father. Since then he acted in several films of action and romance kind. He has also worked as a playback singer in several of his films, as well as a few other films starring other actors.

Vijay has starred in several action and romance films, including some of the commercially successful movies such as Poove Unakkaga (1996), Kadhalukku Mariyadhai (1997), Thulladha Manam Thullum (1999), Kushi (2000), Priyamaanavale (2000), Ghilli (2004), Pokkiri (2007) and Kaavalan (2011).

Vijay was honored with several titles such as, in the year 1998 as Kalaimamani by the Government of Tamil Nadu, in the year 2000 he was crowned with M.G.R award from the Tamil Nadu Government and in the year 2007 with honorary doctorate. During his career in the Tamil film industry, he has won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and was nominated for one Filmfare Award.

Vijay has also done various brand endorsements such as, in the year 2002 he was chosen as the Brand Ambassador for Coca Cola in Tamil Nadu. In 2008, he was signed up as the star ambassador for the IPL cricket team Chennai Super Kings. In the year 2009, he was once again chosen as Brand Ambassador for Coca Cola. And in the year 2010, Vijay was chosen as Brand Ambassador for Jos Alukkas for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
